Diagnostic Imaging Services We Offer
We offer a wide range of diagnostic imaging services in our Lake Villa animal hospital to support timely diagnoses and better outcomes for your pet. These tools allow us to visualize bones, organs, soft tissues, and even the inside of the ears and digestive tract—all without invasive surgery.
Radiographs (X-Rays)
X-rays are one of our most commonly used tools to assess injuries, locate foreign objects, and evaluate internal issues. Radiographs are noninvasive, quick, and often done during your pet’s regular visit. They help us diagnose:
- Broken bones, arthritis, and joint concerns
- Bladder and kidney stones
- Pneumonia and heart enlargement
- Abnormal masses or tumors
- Swallowed items or intestinal blockages
Ultrasound
Ultrasound allows us to look at the soft tissues and organs in a safe, gentle way. This tool complements X-rays and can offer helpful insight when your pet isn’t feeling well. While we do not currently perform advanced cardiac or detailed abdominal scans, we use basic ultrasound to help us:
- Identify fluid buildup
- Check bladder health
- Guide procedures like cystocentesis (collecting sterile urine)
- Take a closer look at certain organ abnormalities
Endoscopy
Endoscopy involves inserting a small camera into your pet’s digestive tract or airways to visualize internal structures. It’s a less invasive alternative to exploratory surgery and aids in guiding more targeted treatment. This tool can help us:
- Retrieve swallowed objects
- Diagnose chronic GI problems
- Collect samples for biopsy
- Explore unexplained coughing or vomiting
Video Otoscopy
Animal Hospital of Lake Villa is proud to offer video otoscopy as a way to help diagnose your pets. Our video otoscope gives us a high-resolution view inside your pet’s ear canal. This is especially helpful for pets with:
- Chronic ear infections
- Suspected growths or polyps
- Excessive debris or wax
- Persistent discomfort or head shaking
